At the age of two I started my career on the ski slopes of Whistler/Blackomb. It was at that time when my parents introduced me t skiing and it has been a big part of my life ever since that day. I grew up in West Vancouver, am the eldest of three kids and have now lived in Whistler since 1995 with my family. I started racing with the Whistler Mountain Ski Club at the age of eleven. Prior to I that spent weekends on the hill with my brother and sister, parents and friends skiing the bumps, jumps and steeps. I was also involved in many other , sportsboth recreationally and competitively. I competed in gymnastics, tennis, soccer, and trained in track and field at a high level. But, skiing became the dominant sport and at the age of fourteen I decided to put all f my energy into racing at a high level and training hard to reach my goals.
In 1996 I qualified for the BC Alpine team and was with them for a season and from there I qualified to the National Alpine Ski team. I have been with the National team since 1997 and have spent the past 6 seasons on the World Cup Circuit.
My dreams in Alpine Skiing are to win a World Cup race and to win
an Olympic medal while representing my country. These goals I
feel are attainable and I am training everyday of the year to work
on towards those goals. I am currently a 9 time Canadian
national Champion in all of the Alpine disciplines. I just narrowly
missed qualifying for the Torino Olympics in 2006. In the next
few years leading up to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver
my goals are to establish myself as a strong medal contender.
I am currently taking some University courses by correspondence
and completed my highschool diploma in 1998. Skiing is definitely my
focus right now and I look forward to studying and getting a degree when my skiing career is finished. To date I have completed several university courses, a German Language course through Berlitz Language School, am currently taking an Italian Language course and have taken the Dale Carnegie training course.
For the past few years I avhe been the emcee for the Sierra Wireless
Whistler Cup race, which is an international event for the kids aged
eleven to fourteen. I have also done some help wit the 2010 Olympic
bid and have done some motivational talks for VANOC.
I am determined to reach my goals and look forward to being able to
share my story with others. I am proud to be a role model for younger
racers but quiet honestly, I still feel like a little kid myself!
For this
upcoming season my are to further solidify myself as one of the top
contenders in SG and to improve my overall rankings in both the
Downhill and Super G disciplines as well as the Giant Slalom. I have
been training hard all summer and am really looking forward to the upcoming 07/08 season. I am also really looking forward to the World Cup events that Canada will be hosting in Panorama, Lake Louise, and in Whistler. Thanks to may of Alpine Canada’s Platinum sponsors such as Telus and Bombardier, the events are being mad possible. It’s going to be a great season so be sure to get out and watch some of the action, either on site or on tv.
See you on the slopes!
