Britt's Bio

At the age of two I started my career on the ski slopes of Whistler/Blackcomb. It was at that time when my parents introduced me to skiing and it has been a big part of my life ever since that day. I grew up in West Vancouver, am the eldest of three kids and have now lived here in Whistler since 1995 with my family. I started racing with the Whistler Mountain Ski Club at the age of eleven. Prior to that I spent weekends on the hill with my brother and sister, parents and friends skiing the bumps, jumps and steeps.
I was also involved in many other sports, both recreationally and competitively. I competed in gymnastics, tennis, soccer, and trained in track and field at a high level. But, skiing became the dominant sport and at the age of fourteen I decided to put all of my energy into racing at a high level and training hard to reach my goals.

In 1996 I qualified for the BC Alpine team and was with them for a season and from their qualified to the National Alpine ski team. I have been with the National Alpine team since 1997 and have spent the past four years racing on the World Cup circuit.

My dreams in Alpine skiing have been to win a World Cup race and to win an Olympic medal while representing my country. These goals have now become goals that I have set. These goals are attainable and I am training everyday of the year to work towards those goals. I am currently a 7 time Canadian national Champion in several of the Alpine disciplines and just narrowly missed qualifying for the Salt Lake City Olympics. In the next few years my goals are to podium at the World Championships, qualify for the Torino Olympics, win World Cup races and in six years time I want to be racing in the 2010 Olympics here in Whistler, on my home mountain.

Ski racing has become my full time job and it is what I do, but it definitely is not who I am. The person that I am is one that comes from a strong and supportive family, a person who respects others, is happy and loves to learn from her environment. I have close friends and really enjoy taking the time to be with them and with family. These are some of the traits that I carry with me.

I am currently taking some University course by correspondence and completed my highschool diploma in 1998. Skiing is definitely my focus right now and I look forward to studying and getting a degree when my skiing career is finished. To date I have completed three University courses, a German language course through Berlitz Language School and have taken the Dale Carnegie training course.

For the past few years I have been the emcee for the Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup race, which is an International event for kids aged eleven to fourteen. I have also done some help with the 2010 Olympic bid and did some training with them to prepare for my talks.

I am determined to reach my goals and look forward to being able to share my story and to help others see how great sport is and maybe to teach them something new that they just might not have known prior to meeting me.
